In Hawai‘i, fishing is more than just a hobby, it’s a way of life. Deeply rooted in the Native Hawaiian culture, fishing is still a prominent source of food for the locals. And while it continues to be an important part of the culture, it’s also something the locals enjoy doing recreationally with their family. Diamond Bakery is here to give you a few fishing spots that you can take your kiddos to when you’re itching for a bite!
There are a few ‘whipping’ spots on each island where it’s easy to land a few nice sized papio or moana kali while fishing with friends or family. On O‘ahu, try whipping for small bait fish at Kaka'ako Park Seawall, on Kaua‘i, Anahola Beach Park on the east shore is a local favorite, and on the Big Island, Honokohau Harbor is a popular place to go when you’re using lures, and finally on Maui, Sandpiles on the north-east side is the place to take the family for a day of surfing and a night of fishing!
Remember that when you’re going fishing, the fish aren’t the only creatures that’ll be hungry! Make sure to pack some sweet snacks and take Diamond Bakery with you during your fishing trip – we recommend our individually wrapped shortbread cookies, the perfect snacks while you’re waiting for a lil’ guy to bite
